Promarker News

Hi Ladies,
Something good has come out of all the rubbish tv programmes I have had to endure, over the Christmas period, at the hands of my darling hubby and his possession of the tv controller!!!!

Yesterday we were sitting having a quiet cup of tea when his daily dose of Matt Hayes Total Fishing came on Quest TV. Imagine my surprise when I watched the resident Carp fishing expert (remind me to change Nicky's title to 'Resident Rubber Stamping Expert') and he recommended camoflaging the hook length and leader line (see, technical knowledge as well!!) with the trusty PROMARKER pens.

So now, Ladies, this is just the excuse we all need to go and buy masses of different colours. Explain to your darling man that he NEEDS them ALL to cope with varying conditions in British waters - in reallity he will, of course, only need black, brown and green - but you can look after the other colours until he finds a shallow swim that has pink, red and purple striped gravel on the bottom of it!!!

So work together, Ladies, it is our turn to play mind games with the Men.

The only downside to all of this is that I have been told that am obliged to watch this programme EVERY evening just in case they come up with another idea to help me. Oh well, you can't win them all!!!!

Love, Lynn xx

Newsletter

Hi Everybody

Can you believe that it has been 5 years since I wrote the very first New Year newsletter for Flutterby Crafts. Such a lot has happened in that time.

I hope you all had a good Christmas. It was very quiet here at Courteney Towers. Grant and I had the house all to ourselves until yesterday, then the parents, the son & the Katie all turned up. Vistitors are like buses, you wait ages for one then they all turn up at once. Still, we had a good game of cards last night - Philip tried to take the pensions off of his Grandparents, but they had the measure of him!!!

So, its all back to work tomorrow. Shop open at 10am and I will, hopefully, have remembered to take off my Christmas Cracker Hat!! Only a short week. Tuesday & Wednesday 10'til 4, Thursday 10 'til 1pm and then Saturday as normal.

Next week we have got to do a stocktake. Can you just imagine all the counting that we have got to do? None of us are looking forward to it. This is where we require your help. We need as much of the stock gone this week as is possible. So I am going to try and encourage you to come in and spend!!!

The type of things on offer include:

In the Paper Shop
25% off all Christmas Stock
Peel Offs (normally 85p each) 10 for £6.50
All 3D Decoupage 20% off
Buy 10 sheets of 12x12 or A4 paper/card and receive 15% discount
10% off of all Jo Sonja Acrylic Paints & Mediums

Christmas is here at last!!

Well, the shop is now shut and will not be re-opening until Tuesday. Four days off. I must admit that I am looking forward to that. I hope all of you are home safely and not suffered too much in the bad weather. My thoughts are going out to Doreen, a dear customer and friend, who has fallen and broken a bone in this icy weather.

Grant and I had a lovely weekend with Helen and Jet. Jet loved the snow and we had a great snowball fight on Monday evening. Unfortunately it was dark so I did not get any photos. I understand that a VERY special Gentleman is visiting Jet tonight and we are going to be hearing all about it.

Anyway, we are now going to put our feet up (probably open a bottle of something) and take it easy.

I want to send you all my best wishes for Christmas & the New Year and I am sure you will all join me in thanking the Girls in the shop, for all the help that they have given us all during the year.

Have a great time, make some time for crafting. Remember the sale next week!!

Love from, Lynn x

Newsletter - 18th December

Good morning, Everybody

Wow, what a beautiful morning - if you have not got to go anywhere!! Such a shame that it did not wait one more week. How magical it would be to wake up to snow on Christmas Day. Anyway, I hope all of you are safe and take it easy in this weather.

I am waiting to find out if the trains will be running ok because Helen and Jet are due to come here today and stay for the weekend. The snow has given me very mixed feelings. I want it to disappear so that all the travelling can be done safely, but I want the snow so that we can have fun playing in it!! Need to make my mind up.

If they get here safely our Christmas will start. The tree will go up tonight and one very excited little girl will help her happy nanny decorate it. Wonderful!

Talking of Christmas - we have got the Kids Christmas Gift making day tomorrow. We will be help the Kids to make a gift for their favourite Him and Her - cannot tell you what will be made, its a secret shhhhhhh! For more details check out the website. Remember it will give you a peaceful few hours to get jobs done or put up you feet, while we take care of the little darlings.

Hopefully you are all organised and ready to relax, take a break, spend a wonderful time with your families. You never know, you might find time to do some restful crafting - I certainly am hoping to get some making time, mind you Grant and I (stupidly!) decided to decorate our hall and stairway - idiots that we are.

Then we will be into the New Year and a new start. The workshops re-start in earnest on the second week in January. We have got the new brochures in the shop or you can download it from the website.

Between Christmas and New Year I will be opening the shop for a few days and we will be having a bit of a sale - 25% off of Christmas stock and a few other bits & pieces - Ruth is going to have some fun in the bead shop putting a sale price on some of the beads!!

If you are still looking for something for your dearly beloveds to buy for you, we have some wonderful magnifying craft lamps in the shop and some lovely BIG metallic coloured beads - perfect Christmas present and we have a gift voucher system if you do not want something specific.

What else? Ah, remember that we will be closed for stock taking on the first week in January - I have to keep reminding the girls that although we are closed this doesn't mean that they don't have to come in!! I don't think they are looking forward to it.

If any of you receive the Trimcraft inspiration newsletter, you will have seen that Dovecraft have a new range coming out in the new year - Pepper and Friends. It is a gorgeous range and we will be having it in as soon as it is released!! Something to look forward to.

Watch out for some exciting news towards the end of January, next year is going to be a good year. Have a wonderful Christmas and Happy New Year to you all.

With love, hugs and all best wishes from

Lynn, Nicky, Anne, Ruth, Joanna, Catherine and Caitlin.

Childrens workshops

Hi Everybody

I know that I said I would not be sending another newsletter before Christmas, but this one is a special one.

There has been a lot being said at the moment about the new regulations for the safety of children and we got caught up in the hysteria surrounding it. I spent too much time reading the press and listening to heresay about the situation, went into a spin and decided that we would not be able to continue with the Kids Klubs.

At the beginning of the week Grant went on the hunt through the new regulations and discussed the matter with those that know and the conclusion is that we are ok - certainly for the next 8 to 10 months - to continue with the programme that we have been running. Ruth, Catherine and myself have all been CRB through work that we have previously carried out with children.

So, to this end we will be re-instating the Kids Klub for the new year and it will start on the first Saturday morning in February. Details of the school holiday workshops will be added shortly into the new year and we are able to continue offering Birthday Parties. How's that? All we need now is for enough kids to keep it going.

To celebrate this good news we are going to be holding a His'n'Hers Christmas Gift Making Day next Saturday, the 19th December, from 10am 'til 3pm. The idea will be that they will make a pressie for Mum (Nan, Aunt, Sister etc) or Dad (Granddad, Uncle, Brother etc). There will be one workshop in the morning 10 'til 12, then afternoon workshop 1'til 3. The cost will be £15 per session or £25 for the whole day (remember to bring a lunchbox). Click here for full details on the website.

So that is all for the time being and the next one really will not be until I send out the Christmas wishes just before the main event. Oh, except for one thing - take a look at this http://www.flutterbycraftsberkshire.blogspot.com/ - I know I am biased, but what a little poppet!! My favourite little angel this Christmas and what a wonderful job her Mummy did with her first Nativity outfit. Fantastic what a pillow case and a bit of tinsel can turn into!

See you all soon and remember to get the kids booked in for next weekend - have a break yourself.

With best wishes

Lynn and the Girls

My Little Angel

Hello Everybody.

I have hi-jacked the blog from Joanna (shhh, don't tell her). I want to show off my Granddaughter Jet. Isn't she just gorgeous. I think she must be just about the cutest angel this Christmas - not that I am biased or anything!!!

Anyway, I will let Joanna have this back now. I am going to go and drool over the rest of the photos of her.

Newsletter - 4th December

Hi Everybody

What a beautiful morning!! When we walked the dogs, at some unearthly hour, the moon was full and the sun was just coming up, the sky clear and the air was crisp. It was freezing cold with a hard frost and a mist across the fields. Absolutely charming and beautiful. I love mornings like that!

And why should it not be like that? It is December after all!! Can you believe how fast this year has gone. What an eventful year it has been. Between my little sister emigrating, Dad having his accident with the kettle, my other sister moving, Katie getting her job in London, Philip moving back in, us adopting Bridie and loosing Kes, Nicky having her operation and Gavin with his back operations - it has been a complete year of ups and downs.

From what I hear, it has been the same for so many people this year. Goodness knows which star sign planets are clashing with which, but I wish they would move on and give us all a break.

I did hear some good news yesterday, though. Some dear friends of Grant and mine became Grandparents for the first time. Their daughter had a little pair of blue bootees. Tony had desperately wanted a son but was blessed with 3 daughters, but now he had a Grandson - how wonderful.

And another friend, who is a distance away, became a Grandma to a pink pair of bootees. All is well in the world. Both babies are good and the Mums are well. Bless!

So, what is happening in the world of Flutterbys?

Well, I am going to start by congratulating Gavin (Nicky's Hubby). He is retraining as an electrician and he passed his first exams with a credit. Well done!

We are organised!! The new year workshop listing has been done and the brochure has been printed!! Never been known that we are that advanced. Joanna has worked hard on it this week and there will be a printable version on the website by the end of the weekend. Click here for the place to watch.

The brochure shows all of the regular workshops. As yet we have not sorted any specials, mainly because we have a few ideas up our sleeve which we have still to finalise. As we sort out the specials I will send a newsletter with the information and it will be posted on the website/blog.

We have been asked recently about the Christmas Wish List, so these are now available in the shop.

Joanna has been doing a wonderful job on the blog, keep it updated with news about the workshops and the projects that have been done. Nicky has made some wonderful things for the Christmas workshops. If you cannot get into the shop to look at them in person, make sure you check them out on the blog. Please leave comments, it does our hearts good to hear what you think (provided it is complimentary!!).

So, that brings me nearly to the end of this letter. I know, I know it is only a dozen pages long. I hope you have all noticed that I am not writing so many in the middle of the night these days. Grant has noticed, I am not leaving him to snore in peace!!

There will probably be only one more newsletter before the year ends and that will be Christmas week. Our Christmas opening times have been posted on the website on the 'contact us' page. But in brief, we are basically closing on Christmas Eve at lunchtime and re-opening on the Tuesday, then closing at lunchtime on New Years Eve and then we are closed until the first Saturday of the New Year (9th January) - we have got to do a stock take!!!!!!

Have a wonderful run up to Christmas. Don't work to hard and don't spend too much (unless its in here, of course!).

With best wishes

Lynn and the Girls.

Newsletter

Hi Everybody

Have you noticed the sun shining over the past few days? Wonderful, isn't it - mind you it has come with a major drop in temperature, the wind up at the shop was cutting straight through us. Still, the sun was shining!

Yesterday morning when Grant and I were out walking the dogs - at some unearthly hour of the morning! - the sun was just rising and it was beautiful. The dogs were running around getting up to all sorts of mischief, even they were pleased the rain had stopped.

And to add to the pleasure this week, we have won the lottery!! How wonderful is that? But before you go thinking we are moving the shop into the big barn, let me burst your bubble of excitement and explain that it was only £29. Never mind, it gave us a giggle and it is easier to spend £29 than £2.9 million!!

Anyway this is a VERY, VERY quick letter. I just wanted to remind you all that Tracy arrives tomorrow and that Nicky, Tracy and I are going to be running a Christmas Gift making weekend this Saturday and Sunday.

There are lots of photos of the things we will be making (see earlier blog entries below) and on the website - they look gorgeous. (Thanks, Joanna). So if you are interested in attending any of the workshops to making any of these items, give us a call - there are still some spaces left (and I understand that the rain is coming back, but we will be enjoying ourselves!!).

Talking of Joanna, she will be coming into the shop on Tuesday and we are going to be putting our heads together to sorting out the calendar for next year - so the next newsletter will contain details of the new workshop brochure.

The new year workshops will probably start on the second week of January, mainly because we will be closed on the first week of January for stock taking - how boring is that?

Remember that next Saturday 5th December is Kids Kraft in the morning and ProMarker Challenge Club in the afternoon (is there no end to fun!!).

Right, I promised this would be very short so I am going to end it now!! Just one quick update of toys that are coming into the shop in the next few days - we are expecting our first delivery of Whiff of Joy rubber stamps hopefully tomorrow and the next delivery of Toho beads are due into the Bead shop on Monday (together with some Czech crystals and flower beads).

Have a great weekend and remember to look at the bits we are making this weekend, then come and have a play with us.

Bye.

Lynn and the girls.

Christmas Gift Weekend Workshops

Just to remind you that there is a Crafting with Nicky workshop on Friday, 27th November. Nicky says she will be showing you how to make an advent calendar with lovely Christmas papers. The advent calendar is a good enough reason to spoil your other half, kids or grand children with this FUN gift.

Also, as promised I have some further photographs (only peeps) of the Christmas Gifts you will be making this weekend, 28th and 29th November. On Sunday, Lynn will be showing you how to make this Flower Pot Bell which includes a lovely ding a ling!!!! She will be demonstrating Napkin Art and using Jo Sonja paints to decorate your unique Christmas Bell.

On Sunday, Nicky will show you how to make a CD gift box and a simply gorgeous decorated Pillow Box. The box is quick, simple and cheap to make which could include your jewellery bits for the perfect personalised Christmas gift.

Also on Sunday, Tracy Watkiss will be showing you how to make a desk calendar. I have made one of these on a previous workshop and they are so easy but great fun to make utilising all your favorite bits of decorative papers.

I know the choice is so hard but the Sunday workshops look great as do the Saturday ones too.....what a dilema!!

If you would like to book your place on Crafting with Nicky on Friday, 27 November and any/all of the Christmas Gift Weekend workshops held this weekend on Saturday, 28th and Sunday, 29th November give us a call on 01635 860900 or e-mail us on lynn@flutterbycrafts.co.uk

I am so fed up with the rain!

Hi Everybody

This is the third time that I have started this newsletter!! If you received a blank email from me that was the first time - I pressed the wrong button and sent instead of saving, der!!! The second time I lost power and lost the newsletter, no I had not saved what I had done!! Hopefully, this is third time lucky.

I am going to start with a big whinge about the rain. My heart is going out to all the people around the country who are being affected by the floods. I cannot believe how much rain has fallen over the past week or so and it looks like it is going to carry on for a while yet.

Although we have had lots of rain, we have be lucky because we have not been affected by the flooding - although the high winds did give us some fun last weekend.

We were very lucky last Saturday to have the lovely Michelle from Stix2 and she arrived at the shop just as we had a big power cut!! We could not greet her with a cup of tea, the temperature dropped like a stone because the electric radiators could not work and she was having to demonstrate in the dark (glittering by feel!!). It was very late morning before the power came back on. But she did a wonderful job showing all of us how to get the best from our sticky stuff and she demonstrated the new Stix2 photo canvass (check it out in the shop, I made a canvass with a photo of my favourite little girl on it!). Thank you, Michelle - hopefully we will see you again soon.

Talking of my favourite little girl, can you believe that she is old enough to have started nursery school!! Now her life is full of glitter & glue (that's Nanna's girl!!), sand pits and friends. Too much to do and not enough time to do it in.

And, while I am on the subject of the family, here is a quick update on Katie (I keep being asked how she is getting on - we are missing her visits to the shop). Katie is doing very well at her new job and her first designs will be in 'New Look' within the next week or two and, so I understand, she has some designs going into River Island in the new year. Knowing Katie all you have to look for is a ribbon bow to know which designs are hers. God bless her!!

Also, my little sis (Vivien) is having a good time down under in New Zealand. She gets a bit homesick now and again, but they are beginning to go into their summer (lucky so and so's) and I think that helps. She still has not got her finger out and set up a blog, but I will be giving her a nag next time I speak to her.

So, that is the family news out of the way and now I will get on with the important business of the shop.

The details are up on the website about the Christmas Gift workshops next weekend (shh, don't tell Joanna, but I have activated the page on the website!). The idea behind the weekend is to make quick, last minute gifts - check out the handbag & mobile phone charms and the bell flower pots. Tracy will be helping you to make something special - check out the notelet set & the desk calendar. And, if you give money or vouchers, check out Nickys money pouch & voucher card (perfect for the itune gift cards).

We are going to be running all three workshops three times during the day (confused, we will be!) so no excuse for not getting on the workshop that you want and there is a wonderful Christmas present for those that attend the whole weekend. Check out the details here then contact us to book your place.

This will be the last chance to make Christmas gifts with us this year, so make the most of it.

We are coming to the end of the listed workshops on our brochure and I am hoping to start preparing the one for next term sometime this week. I will be discussing it with Joanna when I see her next week (sorry, Joanna, I should have mentioned it BEFORE I announced it in the newsletter). So watch out for the new brochure soon.

It has been a very busy term with workshops and we have introduced some new groups which are going very well. The Friday morning Craft Club and Jewellery mornings are beginning to develop very well and there have been some great things made.

Ruth's Tuesday evening beading class is doing very well (this week we will be making a Peyote stitch bracelet) and the Thursday night jewellery class has not suffered too much from me taking over from the lovely Katie!!

Nicky has been making some gorgeous cards with the Tuesday afternoon ladies and the Wednesday evening group and the ProMarker club is going great guns (well done to Rose Hogg for winning the first ProMarker challenge).

Talking of the ProMarker challenge, we have the latest challenge entries up in the shop - so remember to vote when you are in the shop.

Have I remembered everything? Probably not, you know what I am like. But I think this has been long enough.

Oh, I know. For those of you that love your rubber stamps I have some good news and some sad news. I am going to start with the sad news.

If you know Mike & Jill from Stamps Unlimited, it is a with sadness that I have to let you know that they have closed their premises in Kings Road. We are waiting to find out what will happen to the manufacturing side, Mike is hoping that he will find someone that will take that over. In the meantime, I am sure you will join me in wishing them well. Hopefully Mike is going to take it easy and enjoy some retirement time (he will still be organising the Art Stamp Shows, so you will see him next July at the Racecourse.).

So, that is the sad news - what is the good news? We are bringing in a new range of rubber stamps (well, new to our shop). Check out the Whiff of Joy range. Absolutely beautiful - my favourite one is 'Willow holding the baby' and look at the wedding carriage. They should be in stock before the end of next week, but as Tracy is arriving on Friday I don't think there will be much left by Saturday (Tracy and Nicky are addicted to Whiff of Joy).

Remember that the best way to keep up to date with events in the shop is to watch the website www.flutterbycrafts.co.uk and the blog www.flutterbycraftsberkshire.blogspot.com. Joanna is doing a great job keeping the blog updated with photos and news, it is a great place to get inspiration and your comments are always welcomed.

Now, I think that really is that. Come and join us next week for the Christmas Gift workshops - it will be great fun and the tea-urn needs a reason to boil. Contact us and book your place now.

Have a good weekend and keep dry.

With best wishes from

Lynn and the girls.

PS, today I have seen the new Dovecraft range. Watch out for them in January, the stamps & decoupage pad are gorgeous. Tempt, tempt!!! xx

The stamped images are, Cowboy and Indians from the Ollyfant range of clear stamps and, Henry Mouse with Christmas Bauble from Whiff of Joy stamps. Both designs by Nicky are stunning especially when coloured in with ProMarkers, don't you agree?

All entries to be in by Wednesday, 18 November, 5.00pm.

Craft Events - coming up!

Hello Everybody

It is raining!! How British is that? The weekend is coming and so is the rain. Never mind - we have the answer for you, come and enjoy a day of watching the lovely Michelle Johnson, from Stix 2, demonstrate and answer all your crafting sticky questions.

I do have a strange mind (please do not answer that statement!!), every time I say that we are going to be having a demonstration here, I picture placard wielding ladies marching around the farmyard!!!

Anyway, Michelle will be here tomorrow between 10am and 4pm. Actually, Nicky has just reminded me that we only ever have events in the rain - we have just done away with the tent bit!!

Come and join us. I will have the kettle on, biscuits at the ready and in traditional fashion we will be giving double loyalty points.

Also, tomorrow afternoon, Nicky will be teaching adult colouring up in the workshop and there are still one or two places left.

A full weekend ahead. Then, just think, you can have a quiet Sunday crafting away having been inspired by Michelle and Nicky. How wonderful!!

And if you do not want to craft on Sunday, come out to Wickham Village Hall (just past Stockcross) and see me at the Christmas Craft Fair and Decorative Arts Showcase - 10am 'til 4pm.

Monday will find me sitting at home with my feet up!!

At this point I should be mentioning the things that are going to be happening over the following few weekends, but I think that this is enough for today. Come and see me over the weekend and I will tell you what is coming up.

This must be just about the quickest newsletter I have ever sent! Promise I will make up for it next week.

See you all tomorrow

Goodbye My Darling Kes

This weekend we had to say goodbye to our darling Kes, the oldest of our two Labradors.
Those of you that have been coming to the shop since we began will, no doubt, have met Kes at some point. He was the most gentlest of giant dogs. He was a tireless worker and the perfect companion, loved by all that knew him. He won the hearts of everybody that he met, even non-dog lovers loved him.
Kes came into our lives when our children were almost grown up so he did not mix much with children, but children never had a thing to fear from him. The moment that he met Jet, he became protector and he laid there pacifly while she used him as her armchair and pillow - never moving or complaining.
Kes was a dog of a lifetime and we will miss him terribly, but he is now out of pain from his arthritis and the stars are a better place for his joining them.
Goodbye my darling Kes.

Ollyfant pop up card

I had a fab time this afternoon and joined in the cardmaking workshop which takes place every Tuesday afternoon, 1.00pm-2.30pm, please click here for more details. Tuesdays are my day off at the moment so I thought I would treat myself to a workshop. The best bit is my husband doesn't know what I am up to, so having been to the garage this morning to get my car fixed, a quick clean around the house, made a cottage pie for tea, I arrived just in time for Nicky's class. Here are two samples using the Ollyfant stamps and Kraft card.

Nicky assures me that more of the adorable Ollyfant stamps are on order. We used the new Woodware Brown Kraft card which comes in A4 sheets of 20 in a pack, which is textured on one side and smooth on the other. The packs have just come into the shop but, I am sure they will disappear very quickly as they are gorgeous!

Then a quick dash to collect the kids from school at 3.15pm. It's suprising what us women can fit into a day when we have to. So come on ladies treat yourself to some ME time!
