Another Father's Day card!

Here is Lynn's take on the Father's Day card which was inspired by Nicky Hayden and posted earlier in the week.

Lynn has used different papers for her shaped Father's Day card and the papers all work great together.

Again, Lynn has used stamps from the Creative Stamper magazine, which is available on line at The Mulberry Bush or in the shop.

The shrink plastic makes a fun embellishment to the card.

Have you ever made a card and realised that it does not fit in a standard envelope!
Well, here is how Lynn has overcome this problem.  She has taken some basic brown parcel paper, inked up the edges and wrapped up her Father's Day card inside!!!

She has even taken a basic small tag, inked up the edges and handwritten her greeting.  Just thread some twine through the tag and you are done!

It's the simplest ideas that are the best, don't you think?

Vicki Nicholson has arrived!

Well, I picked Vicki up from Heathrow airport yesterday morning and she hit the ground running!!  We spend Sunday morning in the playroom preparing for this weeks workshops.

Today it was the turning of the Woodturner demonstrators and they had a very full day learning lots of new techniques.  Tomorrow it starts for Liz, Tracy and myself.  Three long days of learning and absorbing.

Friday evening will be time for the Local Woodturners to have a go and then the glass painting on Saturday afternoon.

Remember that Vicki will be in the shop on Saturday morning and she will be demonstrating various bits and pieces with the Jo Sonja's paints and mediums.

See you in the shop Saturday morning.  Lynn xx

Father's Day Card

Nicky Hayden recently demonstrated this lovely Father's Day card at one of our recent workshops.

She has used a selection of papers from the Tea Party Paper Pads which are available on-line at The Mulberry Bush or at our bricks and mortar shop Flutterby Crafts.

Nicky has used the coordinating papers with great effect and added some white doodling around the edges for the faux stitching.

Only wish my hubbie was brave enough to wear a shirt like this to the office!

Creative Stamping Magazine Issue 4

Nicky has used stamps from a recent Creative Stamping magazine - FOR HIM which includes top quality free stamps worth £20, and is packed with inspiring project pages.

Nicky has used Stazon ink to stamp the motorbike image onto shrink plastic.  In fact, you could use any stamp with shrink plastic to make your card more personalised.

So, now is the time to get making your Father's Day cards ready for the 17th June.

Vicki Nicholson is visiting Flutterby Crafts

As mentioned in Lynn's latest newsletter, there will not be any of the regular daytime workshops during the week of the 28th May.

The reason is that Vicki Nicholson, who painted the lovely glasses and the carving in the leaflets below, is soon visiting Flutterby Crafts from Australia, from the end of May through June.

She has kindly agreed to run 2 workshops.....

1st June, painting on wood (ideal for Wood Turners & Carvers)
2nd June, teaching painting on glass (everyone welcome)

So, if you have not done so, book your place now, for these very exiting workshops which will not be repeated!

Another reminder is that on the Saturday, 9th June we will be running the
ProMarker Challenge Club.
This is a change of week, for this month only.

Anjelica's Crown

The other day one of my lovely neighbours, Alison, came into the shop looking for some gems and bits to make a Jubilee Crown for her daughter, Anjelica.  She went home loaded with goodies and yesterday settled down to make this absolutely splendid crown - one that any Queen would be delighted to wear.

Actually, just had a thought, I could deliver it on Tuesday when I am at the Palace.  What do you think?

Well done, Alison, what a lucky little girl Anjelica is!!!

Scrapbook Layout - Sid the Bear

Lynn has created this lovely scrapbook page about her grand-daughter, Jet with Sid the Bear.
Sid the Bear belongs to Mrs Saville who is Jet's teacher at school.

Each week a child is nominated by the class to take Sid the Bear home for the weekend and take photos of his adventures..........

Lynn has used scrapbook papers from the Miss Caroline collection by My Mind's Eye.  I love the way she has made the pennants with the coordinating papers.

Those little silk roses and coordinating twine give the page lovely dimension.
Simple journalling and doodling on the page do not distract from the adorable photos.

Jet has obviously fallen in love with Sid and given him lots and lots of
"Bear Hugs" all weekend long!

What a lovely keepsake memory.

If you are interested, please come along and join in the next Scrapbooking workshop
Tuesday, 22nd May 6.30-8.30

A card FOR HIM!

Have you seen the gorgeous stamps included in the recent

These stamps are highly recommended by Nicky Hayden our resident colouring and stamping expert.

Here Nicky has used the guitar stamp to make some background papers which have been coloured in.

She has also given the card dimension by colouring the stamped out guitar and hand cut around it to make a little die cut shape.

Here, Nicky has used a selection of papers from Ruby Rock It.  I like how she has curled up the corner of the paper.....lovely addition.

What a perfect card for your rocking son!

Altered Rustic Hearts

A while ago Lynn decorated some plain rustic wooden hearts with Jo Sonja's paints.

She simply dipped the top end of a pencil into some paint and made a random pattern on some of the wooden hearts.....very technical!

These hearts come as a bunch and there are endless opportunities to decorate them as you wish, as a lovely decoration for your home.

If you would like to learn about how to use Jo Sonja's paints and mediums, you may be interested in the following workshops being held tomorrow.

Saturday, 12th May - Painting with Liz

Saturday, 12th May - Home Décor with Lynn & Liz

Jo Sonja's paints and mediums, together with rustic hearts are available at our bricks and mortar shop Flutterby Crafts or on-line at The Mulberry Bush.

Glass Painting Workshop
2nd June 2012 with
Vicki Nicholson

Hi Everybody

Rain, rain go away.  I think we have all had enough now.  My wellies are leaking and I am having a problem finding replacements.  The grass is growing too long and we cannot get it cut.  But the good side is that I have been having a bit of playing time - what else can you do when it is raining? So watch out for some piccies.  Hopefully Joanna will be playing with the camera next weekend.

Now, there is a little bit of bad news - as a result of the rain.   I am cancelling the Crafters Car Boot Sales that was booked for the 19th May.  Sorry about that.  Not only is the rain causing a problem, but the builders are still working on the barn renovation and they won't be finished before next week, so the yard will still be a bit of a mess - not condusive to Car Boot  Sales!!  I will try to get it re-scheduled for later in the year - possibly August or September.

Now, while I am giving you that bit of bad news, I am going to carry on - but don't worry it gets followed by some good news!!

The other bit of bad news is that there will not be any of the regular daytime workshops on the week of the 28th May.  Sorry, but we will have a lovely lady visiting (more of that in a minute) and she will be busy teaching various different groups during the course of the week...........more about that in a minute.

So that is the bad news over with - now here is the good news.

Over the past couple of years we have had some painted glasses on display in the shop - I have put the picture of them at the top of the page, just to remind you.

The lovely lady, Vicki Nicholson, that painted those glasses will be visiting England, from Australia, from the end of May through June.  And she has agreed to run a workshop on the 2nd June, teaching painting on glass!!

This is a one-off special workshop and will not be repeated!!  There will only be 10 places.  It will be run from 1pm 'til 4pm and will cost £25 per head (all materials and refreshments supplied).  Payment due at time of booking.

How exciting is that?  It will cost less than Hubby's weekend round of golf and you will have a stunning glass to show him and a technique learnt for life!!

Vicki is an amazing artist, crafter and teacher.  It has taken us 4 years to persuade her to make the long journey to visit us - it could be another 4 years before we get her back.  So make the most of her visit!

If there are any woodturners or carvers amongst you - Vicki will also be running a workshop, on June 1st - 6pm til 8.30, dedicated to using the Jo Sonja's Paints and Mediums on your wood.

Vicki will be teaching such things as:
Smoked Marbling
Iridescent Crackling
and Tortoise shell

Again, places will be limited to 10 people and will cost £25 per head (all materials and refreshments supplied). Payment due at time of booking.

This picture is a sample of Vicki's carving and use of Jo Sonja's.  The original is currently in the shop - come and take a look.  It is gorgeous.

Remember, if you are a member of UKDP - Vicki is teaching a range of workshops around the country.  We are having some here, at Flutterby Crafts on the 16th, 17th and 18th June.  More details are available through the UKDP.  If in doubt give me a call.

Now, for all of you that have been avoiding us while the building works have been going on (and on, and on, etc) - I have been told that all the builders will be gone by the end of the week!!!  I am not holding my breath, but I am hopeful.  This means that the yard will be cleaned up and re-gravelled!!  Yippee!!!

We might even be able to put some pretty flowers in border at the front of the shop.

So make sure to come and see us.  We have loads of new gorgeous papers, buttons, beads, flowers, wools and all sorts to inspire.

Lets hope the sun shines this weekend and the grass starts to dry out.  It has two weeks to chirp up before I have to don the fancy dress & hat for my visit to London!!

Right, now, I think I am going to have to go.........I have just seen the mess that Buzz and Kite have made of a stuffed sock -------- how far do you think the stuffing from sock can be spread?  The answer is A LONG WAY!  And will they be clearing it up - No.  They are fast asleep without a care in the world.

Have a good weekend and remember to get your name down for that glass painting workshop.

Lynn and the Girls.

Look at our beautiful new roses.  They are gorgeous.
