Happy Birthday - Lynn

Hello everyone, or should I say "Good morning campers"! Yes over the last two weeks we have been camping with the kids on and off. As a family we are new to camping and surprisingly I enjoyed it!!!! It was all good and we had lots of fun until last week one night the tent was flooded, howling gales and my 12yr old son asked at 2.00 am "Dad can I sleep in the car, I can't get to sleep"!!!

Anyway, nearly back to normality with the kids returning back to school on Thursday. I will be catching up with all the goodies that have arrived in the shop and I believe there are lots so, do keep popping back and leave any comments after a post as long as they are nice ones!

No photos but I would just like to wish Lynn a HAPPY BIRTHDAY today at Flutterby Crafts. Here's wishing you a great day and I hope you get the odd measure of spoiling whether it is at home or in the shop!!!

Have a good Bank Holiday weekend.

Hi Everybody

Well it is nearing the end of my week off. Buzz has come on realy well. He is clean, dry and (more importantly!) quiet over night. He has also, slowly, got used to being on his own (with only Bridie & Kip for company) while we are at work. Having said that, between Grant, Phil and I he will not be left for very long at any one time. It has been suggested, however, that we teach him how to pull the ring-pull on the cans of dog food just in case!

Buzz has learnt, so far and apart from being clean & sleeping through the night, to sit on command, to 'fetch' on command, getting used to walking on a lead AND to leave Kip & Bridie alone when they are eating. The last thing the most important!

Now we have the last bank holiday before Christmas AND it looks like it might be sunny!

So I just wanted to wish you all a good break if you are not working and I hope the weekend passes quickly if you are working.

I understand that while I have been away from the shop there has been a lot of new goodies arrived.

The Toho beads have arrived and Ruth is busy bagging them up.

Pepper and friends Christmas collection has arrived, Martha Stewart punches turned up, just to mention a few things.

Just a couple of little prompts. Next Saturday (4th September) Dulcie will be at the shop demonstrating using the Promarker pens on her Milton stamps. Dulcie is the creator of Milton for the Wild Rose Studio.

The usually workshops restart during the next week or so. You can download the new workshop brochure by clicking here.

There is only a few week left before the Christmas Craft Retreat and there is only a few spaces still available, so if you are still thinking about it - get in there! Contact me, by email (lynn@flutterbycrafts.co.uk) or by phone and I will send you the details.

And it looks like I will be organising the NEC coach trip for the first Sunday in November, so remember to let me know if you are interested in it.

Well that is it for now. Have a good weekend and look on the Blog for pictures of the baby boy. He is well cute.

See you soon.

Piccies of the Buzz

Here are some photos of Buzz on his first day with us. He is sooo gorgeous (I am not biased at all!!)

Watch out for some scrapbook layouts, in the shop, over the next week or two - especially after Buzz has met Jet next weekend.

See you all soon.

Hi Everybody

Well, today is the day! I am getting my new puppy, Bridie is getting a new playmate and Kip is getting another thorn in his side!

Poor Kip! He is a quiet old Labrador, who does not need another dog interfering in his life. I am sure he will sulk for a few days, but then come around.

For those of you who are not up to date with this story, a friends Yellow Labrador had 5 puppies in June and we are having one of them. As I say, he is coming home today. His name is Buzz and watch out for lots of news about him over the coming months. I think our routines will take on a new meaning from now on - not sure if that is in a good or a bad way! Labrador puppies need a lot of feeding and take a lot of exercising!!

Anyway, as a result of me becoming a surrogate mummy, I am taking a few days out of the shop. Shock, horror! Can you believe it? AND my timing is awful. Everything was geared up for Nicky to be running the shop and then she finds out that Gavin has got to go into hospital for his operation. Blast! But the girls have all pulled together and set up a routine to cover everything. Lovely Ladies!

So I need you all to pop in and see them during this week, so that they feel loved. It would, also, be worth your while popping in to see all the new things that have arrived!

Christmas has come with a bang. Loads of new things and yesterday (Friday) Pepper and Friends came in. Check out the expression on the face of the Frog, he is gorgeous. As strange as it might seem, I have a feeling that the Frog will feature heavily in the Courteney Household Christmas cards this year.

Also, just arrived, is the next batch of the Tonic Studio punched and the border system. Fantastic fun to use. (shhhh, keep it under your hat, but some Martha Stewart punches should be in on Tuesday).

For the bead shop, by mid week there should be a consignment of new Toho beads. We have ordered some of their 'Treasures' range, which are the Toho equivalent of the Delicas.
Lots of things happening.

I have started looking at the possibility of the coach for the NEC, but I do need to have more feed back from you Ladies if you wish to go. I did get a couple of replies from the last newsletter, but I will need to have more.

Remember that Dulcie Johnson, Creator of Milton & co from Wild Rose Studios, will be with us on the 4th September. She will be demonstrating in the shop from 10am 'til 2pm and then in the afternoon she will be teaching in the Promarker Class. The class is filling up, so if you want to book a place get in NOW!

The Promarker class is £7.50 a head and runs from 2 'til 4 pm.

Anyway, that is it for now. I am going to get ready to collect the new puppy. Watch out for lots of pictures on the blog and our facebook. And remember to call into the shop and give Nicky a hug.

Have a good weekend.

New look Flutterby Crafts blog

So, Joanna says 'Lynn, the blog looks boring it needs jazzing up' (or words to that effect). So I say 'then do it' (or words to that effect). Then this morning I get an email saying 'Hey, Lynn, I have been playing with the blog. What do you think?'.

Well, what do YOU think?

I think it looks fabulous. Thank you so much Joanna.

Each time I look at it, I smile. It is so cheerful.

Joanna won't be writing here for a few weeks, she is having a much needed rest, (Have a great time Joanna and thank you for all your work.), but she has left us with a great looking blog full of interesting information. I will try to keep you all updated while Joanna is away (beginning with the Wild Rose Christmas range arriving on Tuesday).

Have a good weekend.

Newsletter - Aug 2010

Hi Everybody

I hope you are all well and surviving the summer holidays. What a shame that the weather has turned. Still, it seems to be par for the course - school holidays = miserable weather!!

Never mind, I am just about to make you feel even more miserable!!

We did not quite beat Harrods and Selfridges, but I am sad to say that Christmas has arrived at Flutterby's!!!

How awful is that? Mind you, there is some gorgeous bits and pieces. Our first delivery was the Kars range which has some gorgeous embellishments, fun clear stamps, as well as beautiful papers. And, any day now, we will be taking stock of Pepper and his friends. Also, watch out for the Wild Rose Christmas designs (again, they will be in the shop any day).

Sorry to have spoken the 'C' word this early in the year, but that is how we Crafters work. Maybe we should all belong to the Boy Scout movement - be prepared!!

Talking of Wild Rose, remember that Dulcie (from Wild Rose) will be here on the 4th September for the day!

So now let's move on to more Autumny things. Firstly, the new term workshop brochure is now ready. You can either collect it from the shop (what a good excuse to come and visit us!) or you can download it (boring) by clicking here.

We are introducing two new workshops in September. Firstly, Nicky will be running a monthly Friday morning Promarker Club and I will be running an alternate Wednesday afternoon Jo Sonjas class. All the details are in the brochure, but if you would like more information call in the shop and have a chat or give us a call.

Another thing that is coming up in the run up to Christmas (sorry, that word again) is the HobbyCraft show at the NEC. I keep being asked if we are going to be running a coach this year. I am considering it but it will be dependant on how many people are interested in coming. The prepaid tickets for the Show this year are £8.20 per adult and £7.20 per senior, children under 16 enter free. I envisage the coach costing something in the region of £18 per head across the board, all ages. And we will be going on the Sunday.

If you are interest, PLEASE LET ME KNOW. If I do not get any response, I will assume you are not interested and I won't carry on with the planning of it.

Now for an update on the fundraising for Cancer Research. If you came to the Crafters Car Boot sale earlier in the year, you may have met a young man called Luke Rivers whose Nan (Pam Kitch) was helping him to raise his own funds for Cancer Research. Basically, Luke's Great-Grandma died from cancer last year and he wants to raise some money to give to the Doctors so that they can find a cure for this dreadful disease.

Luke, who is only 7 years old, is doing all sorts of activities to raise this money - sponsored cycle rides, selling Nannys crafts (well done, Pam) and things like that. I would like us to help him reach his goal. So - from now on, if anybody comes into the shop to buy something and does not take a carrier bag (how green!?) we will put some pennies into the pot. Hopefully we will help him reach his goal sooner.

So remember, from now on stick a used Tesco carrier bag in your handbag ready for your goodies and we will put some pennies in the pot! (it might also help smuggling in stuff without HIM knowing about it!!)

There you go, another newsletter written. Only one thing left to mention. Buzz comes home in ten days time. Watch out on the blog for loads of photos and tales of a mischievious puppy.

Talking of photos on the blog, have you seen the gorgeous photos of beads that Joanna has posted on the blog? She is a darling and loves keeping you all up to date with details of what is going on.

Anyway, time to send this and get myself a drink before I finish making my latest bracelet. I promised Ruth it would be completed by the time she came into the shop on Thursday.

Happy Crafting and remember to bring in a bag when you come into get your Christmas stash.

Best wishes.

Beads galore!

Lynn has had delivery of some delicious beads......FEAST YOUR EYES on these beauties.

Psst, I had a comic moment photographing these today. I had the beads placed outside on what I thought was a flat surface. Oh no, the beads kept rolling around all over the place so after a few attempts I went inside to find some material more suitable for photographing them! Sorry Lynn, a few beads are now glistening in my flower beds!

Can you see that Lynn has been playing with these wooden beads? The bead in the top right hand corner has been painted, with I guess, some Jo Sonja iridescent paint to give a different effect.

Why not pop into the shop and see what items of jewellery Lynn and Ruth have made with these NEW beads.

Kids Holiday Kraft Klub

Oh dear, I wish I was a kid and could join in the Kids Holiday Kraft Klub next week. They are going to have such fun next week making these projects.

Isn't this bracelet gorgeous! It is a twisted memory wire bracelet and I am sure the kids are going to come up with some wonderful colour combinations.

For the scrapbooking project they will be making a lovely mini album. Here is a photo of the back and it's upto the kids to decorate their albums with papers, photos and embellishments.

Newsletter - July 2010

Hi Everybody

Now, it has - so far - taken me four days to write this letter. Not because I have nothing to say (as if!) but more because there is so much, I am not sure where to start. So I think you need to make a stiff drink and sit with your feet up before you begin to read it. So here goes......................

Can you believe that we are at Summer Holiday time already?!! It seems like only 5 minutes since the beginning of the year and here we are almost into August. Still, at least we appear to be having a summer this year. Let's hope that the weather stays good so that the Kids can let off steam in the fresh air.

Talking of Kids, let me start this newsletter by talking about the Summer Kids Klub - I know, I usually give you the low down on the family first but I will come to that later.

The Summer Kids Klub will be run during the month of August, starting on the 3rd of August. It will be run on the Tuesday and Thursday 10.30am 'til 12.30. Tuesdays will be Scrapbooking with Catherine and Thursdays will be Jewellery Making with Ruth (both ably assisted, on occasions, by the lovely Bethany!).

We have had a lot of enquiries about the Kids Klub this year, so make sure you get your darlings booked in - places are limited.

Also, with the scrapbooking class it would be good if the youngsters can come on all four classes as Catherine would like to work on a project that build over the weeks.

The classes are 10.30 'til 12.30 am and cost £10 per child per class, which includes all materials (although we will need photos for the scrapbooking) - if you book all 8 class get a £10 discount. Book all 8 and give yourself 16 hours child free!!

Well with that bit done, I can now get back to where I usually begin and, boy, have I got some family news for you all!!

I know that some of you have already heard about this, but Grant and I are about to have a new addition to our family.

We are going to become surrogate Mummy & Daddy to a real live Andrex puppy. He is currently five weeks old and we have called him Buzz. His real Mummy is a gorgeous yellow Labrador called Honey who we have know since she was a pup herself. He is sooo lovely.

I have put some photos of him on our blog and on our facebook, if you want to see him.

For those of you that know Bridie (our Cairn Terror - sorry, Terrier) can you imagine what our household will be like once the puppy moves in? Bridie is like the Duracell Bunny, she NEVER wears down and now we are adding another young dog to the mix. Are we mad or what?!?!?

This week we have got Helen and Jet coming to stay for a few days and I cannot wait to take them to meet our new baby. I am hoping to get some time off to spend with Helen & Jet, we fancy taking Jet fishing for tiddlers and, depending on the weather, maybe a day out somewhere. But, of course, it all depends on the weather.

Also this week we are busy working on the new workshop brochure for the Autumn term - when I say 'we', I mean that in the Royal sense of the word as Joanna is the one doing all the hard work - thank you Joanna!

Watch out for a few new workshops starting in the Autumn. There will be some new classes on Wednesdays during the daytime. I will be running a serviette art class on alternate weeks and I am talking to someone (shhh, it a secret at the moment) about Scrapbooking classes/crop - not sure yet if it will be during the day or in the evening. More information in the next week or so.

Nicky and I are busy working on our first run through of the projects for the Craft Retreat (Tracy has already sorted hers!!), which is moving along at a pace now. All the bits are coming together and I will be getting out the tool kit list by mid August.

If you are still thinking about coming on the retreat but have yet to book your place, time is marching on and there are only limited places left. Do not leave it too late!! Contact me if you would like more details.

What else is there to mention? New stuff!!

We have a stock of Kanban 3D die cuts, toppers and card stock now available in the shop - including the new Wobblers.

I know that it is a bit early yet, but we will be receiving our new Christmas range sometime in the next week or two!!!!! Not sure I am looking forward to it arriving - not only have we got to find room for it in the shop, but it also means that the darker nights are coming closer. Not funny.

The Christmas release of Wild Rose Studio will be in with the new Christmas stock and watch out for details of a special visit from Dulcie Jackson - creator of the Milton stamps from Wild Rose Studio - early in September - more details in the next newsletter. But you WILL want to be there.

So that is not too bad. I have just printed this out for Hubby Dear to read it and check it out for spelling, grammar and general reading, and it is only 3 pages. Good going.

Have a good summer break. Check out the website for workshop details - also look at the galleries for ideas and remember to look at the pictures of Buzz on the blog, I'm off to see him again tomorrow night so watch out for new piccies.

With love from

Lynn and the girls.

New Addition!

Sorry, Jonna. I have hijacked the blog, but I have to share my news with everybody. Please forgive me. But I want you all to meet this little fellow....meet Buzz

He is four weeks old and will be coming home to us around the 20th August. Bridie cannot wait to have a new playmate. Grant and I are taking the Rescue Remedy in readyness for the chaos that will ensue.

To see more pictures take a look at our facebook page .

Now, take a look at the posts that Joanna has put on here. She is currently showcasing some of the new bits that we have in the shop.

Bye. Lynn xx

Hubby creche - Art Stamp Show

After spending 3 days at the recent Art Stamps Show in Newbury, Lynn returned to the shop to find a delightful e-mail message from a man who had taken up the opportunity of the Hubby Creche!

While visiting Newbury craft fair on sat 3rd July with my wife, i was most pleasantly surprised to find that "Flutterby Crafts" had thought of us poor hubbies, and supplied a comfortable Hubby creche for us drivers/bag carriers!! They had supplied numerous magazines and newspapers and also ice cold drinks at no charge. This was a very thoughtful thing to do and hope that this will take off in the future. Thanks once again to Flutterby Crafts and to yourselves on another great craft fair that my wife thoroughly enjoyed.

B Williams

All that can be said is how lovely of B. Williams to take the time to send such an appreciative message . (You should have seen the smile on Lynn's face on reciept of this e-mail....it made her day!).

You see she does try to think of everything, happy husband = happy wife!

Napkin Art!

The Jo Sonja stand at the Art Stamps Fair last weekend was buzzing! Lots of people where picking up and stroking the projects that were on display. The visitors were amazed at the lovely projects that had been simply made with Jo Sonja paints and Napkins.

Which leads me nicely to these simple wooden beads.........

So you might be thinking that these look like plain ordinary wooden beads.......well take a look below at how Lynn decorated these beads with Jo Sonja paints and Napkins!

I can tell you that these look absolutely stunning and Lynn has them in the shop if you would like a closer look.

It is truly amazing the things Lynn comes up with to decorate with paints and napkins with stunning results.

If you visit our new Jewellery Gallery you will see a photo of the whole necklace.

If you would like to learn more about Jo Sonja paints and the art of using napkins why not take a look at our workshop details here.

Saturday at the Art Stamp Show

I am really tired now. What a great day. I was not in the shop, which is always sad - I love my shop. But, I saw loads of our customers at the Art Stamp Show and I have met loads of new people. Fantastic!

And, loads of people visited Ruth and Karen in the shops.

Also, the Hubby Creche went down a storm at the show. A great day.

Lets hope for the same tomorrow. Lynn

Friday, 2 July 2010

Oh my gosh, yesterday I popped into the shop to catch up with the Lynn and I was tripping up over LOTS and LOTS of boxes that had just arrived with NEW goodies.!

There is so much gorgeous new stuff in the shop that I am sure the girls are wearing out their pricing guns!!!!

Well, here is the 1st of many deliveries to show you. Yes, Lynn has some Martha Stewart punches in the shop. Now, I am not quite sure if these are going to the Art Stamp Fair or they will be in the shop on Saturday, but be quick because they are sure to go quickly.

I must say that I already own a few MS punches and they punch beautifully. Here below is a lovely flower combo. There are 3 acrylic stamps hidden under the flower disc and when you have stamped your flower you can punch it out. How FANTASTIC is that!!

I know it's a difficult decision but why don't you go to the Art Stamps Fair, visit the Flutterby Crafts stand at the show and then pop along to the shop in Thatcham.......just make a day of crafting!!!!

Newsletter 29th June

Hi Everybody

I sat down at about 8.30 this morning, with my bowl of 'Oat so Simple', to write this newsletter. I got as far as 'Hi Everybody' and that was it until now, which is ten past six in the evening and I am sitting here with my jacket potato and salad!!!!!

It has been madness here and I will tell you all about it as this newsletter goes on. I also have a story or two to tell you all. AND it has been a while since I last tapped away on the keyboard. So it might be a good idea if you made a cup of tea and put your feet up, I have a feeling this is going to be a long one!

I am going to start with the most important piece of news. Jet is three years old today! Can you believe that? How quickly that time has passed. (For those of you new to my newsletters - Jet is my gorgeous Granddaughter and her Mummy is my lovely daughter Helen). She is a proper little chatterbox now and I think her Mummy is hoping that the third birthday comes along with her passing out of the 'terrible twos'.

Helen and Jet came to stay for the weekend and Grandfa Grant took her fishing, I got to read her bedtime stories and we all enjoyed a Peppa Pig birthday party on Sunday with Great Granddad Jim and Great Nanna Dora. It was wonderful.

Jet wanted a digital radio for her birthday (she likes listening to Classical Music!! Very high brow!) and I managed to find her a PURPLE one which I blinged up with diamantes and beads. I also decorated a nest of drawers in her favourite colours, pink and yellow, and we put all sorts of treasures in the drawers. How wonderful to be only three and find such things so exciting.

The other exciting thing that has happened to the Courteney household is that our next baby has been born - this one is of the furry variety! A friend of ours has a beautiful honey coloured Labrador by the name of......Honey (funny that!) and she gave birth to 5 big strapping lads. We are going to see them next week and I know....for certain.....that we will be having one.

I am not sure how Kip, our old Labrador, will take to the puppy but Bridie will be beside her self to have a new playmate!! WHAT AM I LETTING MYSELF IN FOR?!?!?!?

So that is all the Courteney family news.....I suppose I had better get on with the shop business.

I will start with a little story. On Saturday just gone, two young ladies came into the shop to make some jewellery. Apparently they were told, by a friend, that they HAD to visit our shop to see all the delights on offer (there were then a few other compliments, but I won't mention them because they will make me blush!) and they were told to sign up for the newsletter because (and this is what they were told by the friend) they are funny and full chatter. So now I have got to make sure this one is 'funny and full of chatter', no pressure there then!

So, where shall I start? Let me begin from the last newsletter, with the Cancer Research Car Boot Sale. We had a great day with lots of new people finding us. AND we raised an amazing £313.56 which we gave to Maria, one of our regulars and she who does amazing things with wood and serviettes, and she had it double through her employers, Vodaphone. Thank you Maria and a huge big thank you to Vodaphone.

I think we may well try the Car Boot Sale again but, probably, not until next year. Too much going on this year.

Next, it is the ART STAMP show this weekend at the Racecourse. We, of course, will be there. We are taking the Jo Sonjas and some other bits. We will have some special offers and we will be running some of the workshops. I will be playing the Decor Crackle on the mirror board and Nicky will be playing with Promarkers. So look out for the workshops.

We are also going to be having a Hubby Creche! So if you HAVE to take the other half along, leave him with us. We will make sure he is watered and entertained. I have a great stack of magazines building up and I will take the newspapers.

Advance tickets are on sale in the shop. But, do remember, you are not allowed to take your credit cards or any cash with you. You are only allowed to buy something once you have spoken to us and got written permission to buy!! Apart from that, enjoy yourself.

Should you wish desperately to buy something and you cannot find it at the show, remember that the shop will still be open. Ruth and Karen will be holding the fort while Nicky and I will be on the stand at the show and Catherine will be running the Childrens Corner.

Remember that there will not be a Promarker workshop or Childrens Club this weekend.

Another bit of exciting news, our online shop is now up and running. Check out http://www.themulberry-bush.com/ . It is very new, only been live for a couple of weeks. But it does mean that if you cannot get to the shop, you now have the opportunity still to get your fix.

The website is being run by Catherine, who you will know from the shop on a Saturday morning. Catherine got married last year to the lovely Rob and she has recently had a beautiful baby girl, Freyja. So with Rob, Freyja and Max (her 9 year old son) Catherine has her hands full - yet she (stupidly) decided to join forces with me in setting up this site.

We are busy loading goodies whenever we can and we are gradually getting everything on there. If we are too slow for you, just drop us an email telling us what you would like and we will sort it.

Talking of websites, have any of you looked at the gallery that Joanna has built on the http://www.flutterbycrafts.co.uk/Flutterby_Crafts_Gallery.asp website? It is looking superb. Joanna has also been doing massess of work on the blogsite: http://www.flutterbycraftsberkshire.blogspot.com/ , so sign up or make comments or do something so that we all know it is worthwhile - it makes us all so very happy when someone leaves a comment on one of the entries.

And talking of Joanna, we must congratulate her on becoming a member of The Cutting Cafe design team. Well done, Joanna.

Ummm...what else? We have all the new Wild Rose Studio stamps for men (check out http://www.themulberry-bush.com/ for pictures and to order) and we also have the paper packs to go with the stamps. Dulcie, from Wild Rose, will be here in early September for the day. Watch out for the details.

We have some new albums - there is a beautiful one with a Teddy Bear on the front - templates from Colour My World, lovely resin embellishment packs and loads of new rubber stamps. All of which are in the shop and they will be on the website very soon.

Do you know, I have spent a week or more mentally writing this newsletter and I know that there is a lot more to say, but I cannot think of it. What an idiot I am (DO NOT say anything to that one!).

The plans for the retreat are coming on well. We have worked out what each of us is going to be doing - after a fashion. Just need to pick the papers, stamps and other bits and pieces. I am hoping that we will be getting some more info on the website soon. If you are still thinking about coming, let me know because places are filling fast.

The bead shop is looking good. Plenty of colour in there and the Toho Seed Beads are doing very well. Look out for a new order of them sometime very soon.

The new workshop brochure for the Autumn will (hopefully) be out in the next couple of weeks and we should have the details published in next week of the Childrens workshops for the Summer holidays. Can you believe that it is nearly that time again?

Well, it is now 8.10 in the evening and I think it is time I stopped writing. I am sure you have all finished your cup of tea by now. It is a good thing that the reading of this is a lot quicker than the writing!!

Have a good evening/day. Enjoy the Art Stamp Show - come and see me when you are there. Come and see us in the shop as well, otherwise we will feel very unloved!

Keep smiling, keep crafting, keep cool.

With love from

Lynn and the Girls.

Napkin Art and Glass Bowls!

Look what the ladies at the Jo Sonja Craft Club
decorated with napkins!

Well, did we have fun yesterday afternoon in the Jo Sonja's craft club. Everybody had a G&T - only yesterday afternoon that stood for Glass & Tile Medium. There was torn serviettes all over the place, but the results were stunning. The photos were taken by Joanna part way through the afternoon, before the bowls were dried and cleaned up, but you can see what a wonderful job the ladies did.

Mind you there is always one that is slower than everybody else (it's alright Erica, I won't say who it is!!) hence the fact that everybody is sitting back with arms folded watching the hard work of one person.

Ladies at our Jo Sonja Craft Club.

Why not go and check out more projects in our Photo Gallery in the Jo Sonja and Napkin Art gallery.
